Bernard de Nonancourt spear-headed the post war success of wine in the Champagne region, before the incursion of corporates and establishment of larger group enterprises. He developed the then small firm to become the fourth largest champagne house, the majority of whose shares are still family owned. De Nonancourt's two daughters also played a significant part in the direction of Laurent-Perrier house.
In 1957, departing from convention, Laurent-Perrier decided to make a non-vintage cuvée from three different assembled vintages. Bernard de Nonancourt was a great advocate of blending, considering the skill of the blend a way to mitigate negative Russian roulette factors of markets and climate. Occasionally however, a single vintage is produced.
This champagne is from equal proportions of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, the latter being the primary grape. The relatively high proportion of Chardonnay in this blend extends from the richness of the dark grape to the fine elegance created by the white.
