Givry Rouge Dom. des Moirots 2015
ABV 12.5%
Tasting Notes
Low yields of mature Pinot Noir give a bright ruby colour, perfumed nose and a pure and lively style. This is refined and elegant with redcurrant and cherry fruit flavours with some more mature notes of forest floor and a trace of oak. Well structured and soft in the mouth with silky tannins and a harmonious balanced finish.
Food
A good accompaniment to cold meats, duck breast salads, chicken or guinea fowl casserole, fricasse of wild ceps and a variety of well flavoured cheeses.
Region
This region includes the southern Burgundian vineyards of Givry, Mercurey, Rully and Montagny which are all close to the town of Chalon just 30 minutes south of Beaune in the heart of Burgundy. Very rural and unspoilt these vineyards are planted with Chardonnay & Aligote for whites and Pinot Noir for reds. The soils are a mix of limestone, schist and clay, and when combined with a warmer climate than Burgundies from further North the wines have a fuller, riper character. These excellent wines generally offer attractive early drinking, that are often a great taste of `Classic Red & White Burgundy` at a fraction of the price to their more illustrios and famous neighbours.
Producer
Domaine des Moirots is a family property situated in the village of Bissey-sur-Cruchaud that has been producing wine on about 30 acres of south facing vineyards in the Cote Chalonnaise, the region just to the south of the Cote de Beaune, since 1978. Christophe Denizot handles the operation and produces Chardonnay and Pinot Noir based wines from his carefully tended vineyards using traditional Burgundian methods allied to modern winemaking techniques to produce fine wines from the healthiest vines. The granite and limestone soils and climate here lends itself to the production of wines of firm acidity and supple minerality.
