Region
Grenache forms the backbone of southern Rhône blends, including Châteauneuf du Pape, Gigondas and Vacqueyras. The vast area of Côtes du Rhône offers a great diversity of soils, microclimates and a variety of grapes to create a range of styles at all quality levels. The aromatic dessert Muscat de Beaumes de Venise, is fragrant and sweet.

Producer
The Vignobles Paul Jeune with a total surface of 30ha in Chateauneuf du Pape, represents the combined vineyard of three domaines dispersed by inheritance and reunited. It is divided into 48 lots located on a combination of stone, chalk and clay soils. Paul also shares an interest in Chateau Valcombe further east in the Ventoux.Paul Jeune follows a traditional approach to winemaking. All harvesting is by hand with 25 days in tank with racking and 12 months in barrel. One third of the estate is planted with old vines ranging from 60 to 110 years old. These old, low yielding vines of Chateaneuf du Pape produce wine that have instant appeal yet lends itself to cellaring. This winery is located behind an unmarked door within the town of Chateauneuf and the cellar is half buried which keeps a consistant cool temperature.

Tasting Notes
A traditional and uncomprimising Châteauneuf, blended from Grenache with Syrah, Cinsault and Mourvèdre, with each adding complexity. A peppery nose with wild herbs, cedar and tobacco notes precedes a palate rich with attractive mulberry fruit, blackcurrant and supple tannins. The powerful dark fruit notes are matched by a rustic, leather and mineral richness with a strong spicy finish.

Food
An ideal match for the richest of game and roast meats or stews including Provencale Daube as well as strong cheeses.
